Paintings
Some personal notes:
As an artist, it is not my purpose to imitate nature, but rather to reflect upon human nature. The paradoxes of Life on Earth are what interest me, both artistically and spiritually.
I was trained primarily in drawing and painting. Therefore, the vivid expression of an image is what preoccupies me. Exploring the dynamic forces that make up the entire composition of a work is another matter of interest, from a formal point of view.
Distinctions between ‘fine art’ and ‘illustration’ are secondary to the innate intensity or communicative purpose of the work itself.
As in any art discipline, the elements of discovery, surprise, and experiment play a large part. With me, those factors tend to be on a descriptive level, although they can also be technical, or conceptual. Further to that, such additional elements as narrative or humour become welcome ingredients when they impart a greater source of enrichment to the viewer.
The viewer plays an all-important role, and in fact actually completes the work when his/her imagination connects with it.
Other bodily receptors can be activated as well, beyond the imagination alone. A tingling in the toes, the kneecaps, the solar plexus, the nape of the neck, etc., etc. -- this is what happens when we experience intense emotion, or intellectual excitement. Art is doing its job when it produces these results.
